SubProject: King


Here is the initial design for the king in Blender. Before I've shown you the 3-D mock up of each piece but this is really how the piece gets created. I've created the king with the same method as all of the other pieces
with one exception. The king has a cross on top of his head that is flat
on two sides.



To craft any piece (with the exception of the knight) all I have to create the the piece's profile. The I use a python program (See the Pawn Page) that I've written to convert the profile into the code that the lathe understands to carve it out. Here is the king as it looks in LinuxCNC:

 

Once the base shape is completed on the lathe I put the piece into my Bridgeport milling machine to create the cross on it's head:


Below if the finished piece. I have to say that this piece was my second favorite to the knight.
